The laboratory for soil-mechanic parameters – Geotechnik Labor

The basic equipment of the geotechnics includes a efficient laboratory for soil mechanical routine tests. The tasks of the laboratory in education includes practical courses for classification of rock and soil, sampling of soils, determination of  strength-, permeability- and deformation parameters of undisturbed and processed soil samples. Furthermore all laboratory tests as part of project-, diploma- and master-theses are realized at our laboratory.

The laboratory environment for soil-mechanic parameters includes:

  • sampling: registration of the soils, identification and description, pocket penetrometer test, pocket vane test,  tall cone test to describe the condition
  • classification tests: particle size distribution, consistency limits (Casagrande /  fall cone test)
  • compaction tests: proctor, CBR, dynamic CBR, unconfined compressive strength, freeze-thaw cycling, frost suceptibility
  • shear strenght test:  direct shear test, triaxial test, cyclic  triaxial test
  • oedometer consolidation tests: compression device with automatic loading or with weights
  • hydraulic conductivity tests: in cylindrical core-cutter at constant or falling hydraulic water head, in proctor pot
