Applied geology focuses on the practical application of geological research, specifically on the study, utilization and protection of geological environment. In the TESEUS project, applied geology engages experts from Faculty of Science of Charles University, Institute of Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology and Applied Geophysics.

Based on field research, work in the institutional laboratories and mathematical modeling, we aim at testing of soils and their behavior, slope stability, locating underground caverns and fissures and determining their physical properties. We study groundwater, its origin, flow and chemical composition, and we deal with limits of its safe use and protection. For studying the geological environment, we use a variety of geophysical methods (geoelectrical, gravimetric, seismic and other methods), we are engaged in capillary barriers, in hydraulic calculations for field research, etc.

Our graduate students have a broad base of knowledge of scientific and engineering branches, they get a thorough introduction into computer science, mathematical and numerical modelling and also modern approaches in the laboratory and field work. Graduates are able to solve problems related to prospecting, use and protection of natural resources, pollution research and migration of substances in the environment, the influence of human activities and the evaluation of environmental geofactors.
